The Dubai skyline at dusk

Middle East

Seven hours, guaranteed winter sun, and the best stopover position on earth. Also 45°C in August, which is the one thing to plan around.

November to March, and not otherwise

This is the most seasonal region we sell, and the summer is not a matter of preference.

From November to March the Gulf sits at 24–30°C, dry and comfortable all day — it's genuinely one of the best winter-sun propositions anywhere. From May to September it regularly passes 40°C with high humidity, and outdoor time becomes impossible rather than uncomfortable. Prices halve for exactly that reason. If you must travel in summer, Yas Island's indoor theme parks and Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, ten degrees cooler at altitude, are the two things that still work.

What to know about the Gulf

Questions people ask

Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Dubai for the most to do and the liveliest. Abu Dhabi for the same weather at 20–30% less, plus the Grand Mosque and two indoor theme parks.

Is Oman worth it over the UAE?

If you want scenery and history rather than shopping and skyline, very much. It's also easy to drive and cheaper than the UAE.

Can we visit in summer?

You can, and it's half price, but 40°C-plus with humidity is genuinely limiting. We'd steer you to indoor attractions or a different destination.

Do we need a visa?

UK passports get a free visa on arrival for the UAE. Oman requires a visa on arrival for short stays or an eVisa for longer — we'll check it against your itinerary.
