Dalt Vila
The walled old town above the harbour, UNESCO-listed. Cobbled, steep, and best walked at dusk with the port lit below.
A UNESCO walled old town, pine-covered hills, family resorts and quiet northern coves — plus the clubbing scene everyone has heard of, which occupies about two square miles of it.
San Antonio's west end and Playa d'en Bossa are where it happens. The rest of the island is a different holiday.
Santa Eulalia is a family resort with a promenade and a marina. Portinatx and Cala San Vicente in the north are quiet coves with a handful of hotels. The interior is hill villages, almond groves and farmhouse hotels. And Dalt Vila, the walled old town above Ibiza Town, is UNESCO-listed and genuinely beautiful. Booking Ibiza expecting one of these and getting the other is the mistake we correct most often on this island.
An old town, a lot of coves, and one boat trip everyone should do.

Thirty minutes by ferry to white sand and turquoise shallows that look Caribbean. The best day trip in the Balearics.
Cala Xarraca, Benirràs and Cala d'en Serra. Small, pine-backed and quiet. Benirràs has drumming at sunset on Sundays.
A limestone islet off the south-west coast, best seen from Cala d'Hort at sunset. Free, and the island's best view.
Saturday market at Sant Carles, going since 1954. Crafts, food and music — far less commercial than it sounds.
Whitewashed inland villages, farmhouse restaurants and almond groves. Twenty minutes from any beach and another world.
Four distinct Ibizas. Pick carefully.
Promenade, marina and good restaurants. The default family choice and nothing like the west.
Dalt Vila on the doorstep, a calm town beach, and the ferry to Formentera.
Portinatx, Cala San Vicente and the calas. Small hotels, pine trees, and very little nightlife.
The clubs, the sunset strip and the young crowd. Book it on purpose.
May to October, with June and September the best combination of weather, cost and calm.
July and August are hot, full and expensive, and the club season is at its peak. May and June give warm days, a sea that's swimmable from June, and much lower prices. September is our pick — the sea is at its warmest, the crowds thin after the first week, and the island exhales. Winter is very quiet, with many resorts closed entirely.
2h 20m to Ibiza (IBZ), widely served from UK airports between April and October.
10–40 minutes. It's a small island and nothing is far.
Euro. Cards everywhere, though beach chiringuitos sometimes prefer cash.
Useful for the north and the interior, which is where Ibiza is at its best. Book early in summer — it sells out.
We'll match the resort to what you actually want, and we'll say plainly if it's the wrong end of the island. Payment plan in full.
Very, in the right resort. Santa Eulalia, Portinatx and Cala Llonga are family-focused and calm. San Antonio's west end is not.
Roughly late May to early October, peaking in July and August. Outside that the big clubs close and the island is much quieter.
In peak season, yes — noticeably more than Majorca. In May, June and late September it's comparable.
Majorca is bigger with more variety and better value. Ibiza has the better coves and the old town. Both have quiet halves people don't expect.
