The Maldives is one island and one resort. Zanzibar has beaches on four coasts, a UNESCO stone town, spice farms, and dolphins off the south. Doha is the other half of the saving — Qatar's routings through Hamad are frequently the cheapest way into East Africa, and three nights there costs very little on top. Doha itself is quieter and more culturally serious than Dubai, with a superb Islamic art museum and a properly restored souq.

Zanzibar is roughly half the Maldives for comparable water, and the saving is real at every tier. The one thing worth paying for is a north-coast hotel — the east coast's tidal range means the sea retreats several hundred metres twice a day, which nobody warns people about.
Two dry seasons, and a tide that catches people out.
June to October is the long dry season and the best window, with kitesurfing conditions at Paje. December to February is the short dry season — hotter, humid, and busy over Christmas. The long rains in April and May close some hotels entirely. Doha is comfortable from November to April and passes 45°C in summer, so June to October pairs a perfect Zanzibar with a hot Doha — worth knowing when we pick your dates.
