Seven Mile Beach, Negril
Long, sandy and west-facing, so the sunsets are the best on the island. Rick's Café for the cliff divers at dusk.
Mountains running down to the sea, a music culture that shaped the world, and some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. It's also bigger than people expect, and that matters.
Jamaica is 235km long and almost everyone flies into Montego Bay at the western end.
Montego Bay resorts are twenty minutes from the airport. Negril is ninety. Ocho Rios is two hours. Port Antonio, the most beautiful corner of the island, is three and a half. Those are real drives on winding coast roads after a nine-and-a-half-hour flight, and they're rarely made obvious at booking. Kingston has its own airport, which is worth knowing if you're heading east. Ask us the transfer time before you fall in love with a hotel.
Beaches, waterfalls, and the mountains almost nobody visits.

A 180m waterfall you climb in a human chain, near Ocho Rios. Touristy, wet and genuinely fun. Water shoes essential.
Coffee estates at 1,500m, cool air, and a sunrise hike up Blue Mountain Peak. Two hours from Kingston, and the half of Jamaica visitors skip.
Bioluminescent water near Falmouth that glows when you move through it. Night trips, and one of the strangest things in the Caribbean.
An hour on a bamboo raft poled down a jungle river. Slow, quiet and the best value excursion here.
The far east — lush, dramatic and largely undeveloped. Three and a half hours from Montego Bay, and worth it if you have time.
Four main areas, and the drive from the airport is the deciding factor.
Twenty minutes from the airport. Most resorts, a good beach, and the shortest transfer on the island.
Ninety minutes west. Seven Mile Beach, cliff bars and the best sunsets. Low-rise by ordinance.
Two hours east. Waterfalls, river rafting and cruise ships. Busiest for day trips.
Three and a half hours. Lush, beautiful and barely developed. For a second visit, or a long stay.
December to April is dry season. June to November is hurricane season with much lower prices.
January to March gives the most reliable weather and the highest rates. Late April to early June is the value window — dry conditions, well below peak pricing, before the hurricane risk builds. Jamaica sits directly in the hurricane belt and September and October are the peak months, with prices reflecting genuine risk rather than caution.
9h 30m direct to Montego Bay (MBJ). Kingston (KIN) serves the east and the Blue Mountains.
Twenty minutes to three and a half hours. Check before booking — this is the commonest Jamaica complaint.
Jamaican dollar. US dollars accepted everywhere at resorts, usually at a poor rate.
Private transfers or resort tours. Self-drive is possible and the roads are demanding — most visitors don't.
We'll tell you the transfer time up front, match the resort to your party, and write the payment plan out in full.
Montego Bay for the shortest transfer, Negril for the best beach and sunsets, Ocho Rios for excursions. Port Antonio if you want somewhere barely touched.
Resort areas and the tourist corridor are heavily policed and generally trouble-free. FCDO advice singles out specific parts of Kingston and Montego Bay — we'll go through it with you.
Yes here. Resorts are spread out, eating elsewhere means a taxi, and Jamaica's all-inclusive standard is high.
From Kingston easily, from the north coast it's a long day. If it matters, we'd build a two-centre trip.
