Hewanorra, the international airport, is in the far south. Soufrière and the Pitons are ninety minutes away on a winding mountain road — worth every minute if you're a couple, harder work with young children after a nine-hour flight. The northern resorts around Rodney Bay are closer to the smaller regional airport, livelier, better for families, and have the best beaches. The Pitons are then a day trip or a boat ride. Neither choice is wrong; they're just different holidays.

December to April is dry season. The island is greener than its neighbours because it rains more.
January to March is the driest and busiest. Late April to early June is the value window — dry conditions, lower prices, before hurricane season builds. June to November brings the rains and the hurricane season; St Lucia's rainforest interior gets considerably more rain than flat Barbados year-round, which is exactly why it looks the way it does.
