The most-booked two-centre in the UK, and for good reason. Three nights of skyline and souks while you're fresh, then seven doing nothing at all on an atoll — and the stopover version usually costs less than flying direct to Malé.
Dubai is a superb three nights and a poor ten. The Maldives is the reverse. Putting them in that order is the whole trick.
Emirates and Qatar both route through the Gulf anyway, so breaking the journey costs little and often nothing. You arrive in Dubai after a seven-hour overnight flight, spend three days on your feet doing the things that need energy, then take a short four-hour hop to Malé and stop moving entirely. Reverse it and you finish your holiday walking a souk in 38°C heat with a twelve-hour journey ahead of you — which is why we don't sell it that way.
Eleven nights, two flights out and one home. Seaplane or speedboat transfers to the atoll are included and timed to your arrival.
1Arrive early morning off the overnight flight. Three nights is exactly right — enough for the landmarks and one desert evening, not so long that the heat wears you down.
Where you stay: Beachfront at JBR or Jumeirah for pool time, or Downtown if you'd rather walk to the Burj and the mall.
Getting there: Direct overnight from the UK, around 7 hours. You land at breakfast time on day one.
2One island, one resort, and nothing you have to do. This is the half of the trip that does the recovering.
Where you stay: Beach villa or overwater — we price both. Overwater is the picture; beach villas are cheaper, cooler and better with children.
Getting there: 4 hours Dubai to Malé, then a 25-minute speedboat or a 40-minute seaplane depending on the atoll.
Everything below is quoted up front. Nothing appears after you've paid a deposit.
Guide prices per person, two sharing, outside school holidays. The hotel standard is the biggest single variable.
| Standard | What that means | Guide price pp |
|---|---|---|
| 4-star | Solid Dubai city hotel, good four-star Maldivian resort with a beach villa | £2,199 |
| 4-star plus | Beachfront Dubai, Maldivian resort with a strong house reef, half board | £2,749 |
| 5-star | Landmark Dubai hotel, overwater villa, all-inclusive on the atoll | £3,899 |
Overwater villas add roughly £500–£900 per person over a beach villa for the week. Christmas and New Year add 40% or more and sell out by around March. Ask us to price beach and overwater side by side — a lot of people book the picture and then wish they'd had the extra shade.
November to April is the Maldives dry season and also the comfortable half of the Dubai year. That overlap is why this route sells.
December to March is peak on both legs — perfect weather, highest prices. Late April, May and early November are the value windows: the Maldives is still good, Dubai is warm rather than punishing, and prices drop noticeably. May to September in Dubai runs past 40°C, and the Maldives sees more rain, though it comes in short heavy bursts rather than all day.
We'll come back within one working day with real availability, both villa types priced, and the direct flight costed alongside so you can see the difference in writing.
Often, yes — on Emirates and Qatar the stopover version frequently prices below the direct route to Malé. Not always. We quote both so you can see it rather than take our word for it.
Overwater is the photograph and it's wonderful for a honeymoon. Beach villas are cheaper, cooler, have more shade and are far better with children. We price both.
Speedboat for nearer atolls, seaplane for further ones. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a late arrival into Malé can mean a night near the airport — we check that against your flights before booking.
Yes. Four nights Dubai and six Maldives, or two and nine — it's your holiday. Three and seven is just the shape that works for most people.
Similar shapes, and the ones people most often weigh up alongside it.
Same approach, different shape. All reshapeable around your dates.
