Two very different months in one. The first two weeks are still January's bargain; half term is the most expensive week of the winter.
The same holiday can differ by 40% depending on which week you pick.
Early February is quiet and cheap — long-haul is in peak dry season and ski slopes are empty. Then half term arrives and prices in ski resorts, the Canaries and Lapland roughly double. If your dates are fixed to that week, book by the previous September, particularly for ski school and family rooms. If they aren't, moving a week either side is the single biggest saving available to you all year.
