There is no ticket office, no queue, and no way in without a timed online booking. Every day a lot of people arrive at the door and are turned away. The Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum also use timed slots and sell out in season, though less brutally. If the Anne Frank House matters to you, set a reminder for six weeks before your travel date — that single action is the difference between seeing it and not.

April and May bring the tulips and the best light. September and October are quieter and still mild.
Tulip season runs roughly late March to mid-May, peaking in the third week of April — Keukenhof is 40 minutes away and only open in that window. Summer is warm and crowded. Winter is cold, wet and dark by four, though the museums are empty and the canals occasionally freeze. King's Day on 27 April turns the entire city orange and is either the best or worst day to be there, depending on temperament.
